Weather Spotting - 2010 Archive

April 14, 2011 - The week of April 11-15 was Tornado & Severe Weather Awareness Week in Wisconsin. On Thursday, April 14th, a mock tornado drill was conducted. The NWS in Minneapolis/Chanhassen issued the mock (test) drill which members of the Polk County Skywarn team responded to by activating their mock weather net at 13:30. 11 hams responded to the call-out; 6 from Polk, 2 from Barron and 3 from St. Croix counties. Another drill was issued by Polk County Skywarn at 18:40 with 9 check-ins; 6 from Polk and 3 from St. Croix counties.

July 28, 2010 - Severe weather entered Polk County at about 7 pm on Tuesday, July 27th. Storm damage was most prevalent near Balsam Lake, the County Seat. The following photos, taken in and around Balsam Lake, show some of the damage the storm brought to our area. Photos: Mark W9GWG
